Okay, okay, I know. I'm the last person you'd ever expect to read a romance novel, ne?
Well... yeah... but then I found this series, and it's so good that I don't even mind the romance.
Go figure, eh?
There are four books (I'm on number three), based in the 1840-1860 range... or somewhere in there, and they're all about different characters. The male and female lead of the first book, The Hawk and the Jewel, have popped up in every book so far.
Uh... I guess I'll just touch briefly on what they're about, ne?
Book one: The Hawk and the Jewel: Shani thought she was the daughter of Darhabar's emir (emperor-type-thing). Oh, how wrong she was. At thirteen, her father decided to send her back to her birth family, in England. Her name is Sunny - and she's having trouble adjusting to English life. With the help of her (extensive) family, hopefully Sunny can settle in!
Book Two: The Winds of the Morning: Victoria "Smokey" Simmons has been a sailor all her life. Her father is Clancy, a legend among all sailors. She can scale the rigging faster than any man, and she owns and captains the fastest ship on water. Shorter than the first book, but just as interesting.
Book Three: Who Brings Forth the Winds Stacy Daniels was raised by her grandfather, an English viscount, in a remote village. She visits his sister in London, and basically it goes downhill from there. I'm not too far in, so I can't give any more summary than that...
But, yeah. Great series, I have no idea what the fourth one is about but I'm super looking forward to reading it. Lori Wick (the author) has a way of making things extremely interesting, even though the plot isn't near as exciting as what I usually read. And I hate romance. And historical fiction. This is both. Whoot.
Suzaku, but I'm bad at writing reviews like this. Don't know why I try.
